"Old Town" Park City Real Estate

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Old Town is roughly a quarter of a mile wide and two miles long and includes fusion of vintage miner’s cottages, Victorian replicas, and vacation condominiums.  The area starts at the top of historic Main Street and ends at the Park City Mountain Resort, most properties are a short walk to a free shuttle, ski lifts, great restaurants, art galleries, boutique shopping, and Main Street fun. Old Town is the center of visitor activity.  A wonderful selection of condos and homes are available in Old Town.
Some History on Old Town…Park City has a Historic District called "Old Town."  The town sprung up close to the many mines and mills, with shops, houses, churches, schools, and a railroad depot.  There were mine buildings as large mining companies were attracted to the wealthy ore in Park City.  The Ontario, Daly West, Judge, and Silver King mines were the big names.  Mining was the most important industry in Park City from 1875 until the 1960s and during that period, the population soared from 125 to over 6,000.  Mining is what makes Park City different from many other places. Businesses sprung up as more people arrived.   Mercantile, grocers, lawyers, fine furniture and clothing stores, theaters, and many saloons were available on Park City's early Main Street.  Fortunately, we still have many of the old houses from the 1890s to remind us of what Park City used to be like as an old mining town. On Main street today you can see commercial buildings that were typical of the past  -- tall windows, recessed entry ways, large display windows slanted roofs, decorative dentil patterns near the roof to form a cup or cornice.  One of the oldest buildings on Main Street still stands today; it housed the police department and the fire department.  Another historic building is the Washington School Inn - a wonderful example of an old school that has been restored and converted to a lodge.
